Label Solutions Ltd has invested in a Xeikon CX3 digital colour label press to help focus on new markets and new industries for the Essex based business. The company, a long time user of both digital and flexographic technology, says the new press will sit alongside an existing Xeikon 3300.

Commenting on this latest addition, Les Burden, managing director of Label Solutions, said: “Following on from our proven success with the Xeikon 3300 we have chosen the Xeikon CX3 to expand further into the digital marketplace. The additional capacity and increased speed will further enhance the Label Solutions reputation for fast turnaround and high quality, essential in today’s growing market.

“This purchase should be seen as a commitment to our existing customers, and potential new customers. We are now part way through an investment in excess of £1 million. For us to invest this amount of money demonstrates, I believe, our ambition and belief in the market place.”

Adding further comment, Malcolm Bunn, sales director at Label Solutions, said: “Our label business has grown in line with our high expectations. We were very much reaching capacity on our existing Xeikon. We urgently needed the extra manufacturing capability that this new machine will give us, but on top of that the Xeikon CX3 is 30% faster than our other press, meaning that we can look to dramatically reduce lead times and still have capacity for new work.

“Going forward, this investment in both equipment and people will help us to target and focus on new markets and new industries for our business.”

The Xeikon CX3 five-colour digital label press hardware offers variable substrate widths up to 330 mm (13 inches). This latest machine now offers Label Solutions a top speed of 30 m/min (96 ft/min). The Xeikon CX3 is the most productive digital label press in its class, and offers all the other benefits that make Xeikon label presses unique. These include full rotary printing, a print resolution of true 1200 x 3600 dpi, toners that meet FDA regulations for food contact, and one pass opaque white toner.

In addition to its two Xeikon presses, Label Solutions continue to run the flexographic side of its business. “We believe that we can offer the best of both worlds to our prospects and customers,” said Malcolm Bunn. “Digital has certainly changed the label market considerably, but flexo still has a critical role to play for very long runs. There are certainly companies out there that need a supplier who can provide the best of both technologies.”

Label Solutions started life back in 2001 manufacturing labels using flexographic, semi-rotary and hot-foil print equipment. As a company with a great love of print, the team felt the need to embrace the advent of digital printing in 2011, purchasing a Xeikon 3300 Digital Label Press to expand on the print processes offered. The business currently employs a team of 17 with the company now turning over in excess of £2 million
